Concepcion Immaculada

Sorry, this isn’t really about the miraculous conception that happened two thousand or so years ago. It’s about my friendship with Maria Concepcion, or Maricon, or Sweet.

Usually, after I resign from a company, the friendships I have planted with people wither in time. But not with Maricon. We had so much experiences shared as single, on-the-prowl, yuppies at Aboitiz that even after I got married, this friendship never really let up.

She had done so much for me. She recommended me to apply at Ginebra San Miguel in Davao City. My starting salary in GSMI was not that big, so she shared with me her Wacoal business. It was from her that I fully learned the art of shopping (BI!). We would go to both posh and cheap malls and look for the best bargains and sales we could find. She even let me buy some things using her credit card (gasp!). She introduced me to her suking hair cutter, and we would always go together for a hair coloring, or a hair cut, or a rebond.

One unforgettable thing that we did together was to watch three Tagalog movies consecutively at the Manila Film Festival. Now you don’t want to watch a movie with Maricon because she constantly asked questions, never mind if the film was English or Filipino. But we had fun laughing and crying our hearts out anyway. When we finally got out of the theatre, our heads almost exploded and we almost puked. We did it again the year after.
Sisters in spirit! Cons and I during our Aboitiz days

I miss our telebabad moments. Yup, we  could spend hours yakking on the phone. When the Hubby asked what we talked about, I almost always forgot what the main topic for the day was, because mostly we just rehashed our jokes and gossips. Oh, but we surely never got tired of them.

Happy birthday, ati! I hope that we could just spend even one full day catching up on those long lost conversations and shopping sprees. Miss ya, my friend!!!
