The last thing my own mother told me before I got married 17 years ago was never to alienate my mother-in-law. She said she accepts me for all my warts and uglies because I’m her own daughter. However, she warned me that my mother-in-law may not afford to be as accepting.
My mother was right. I had so many ups and downs with Nanay. But all through those down moments, I can proudly say that I have never once answered back nor have I had a heated argument with her.
Now, we are past that stage of awkward silence, jealousy, or animosity that most MIL’s and DIL’s have. I love her as my true mother and would like to think that she has also accepted me as her own. Heck, I even talk to her more than her own son does!
